Cooking classes in France

Cooking course at the Abbey in Ayen-Bas (Limousin)

Data in the spring 2020 are planned in the fall of 2019.

In the spring and autumn we conduct a 4-day cooking course in Ayen-Bas, near Brive-la-Gaillarde in the region Limousin, close to the border between the departments of Corrèze and Dordogne. The renovated former abbey, situated in a highly picturesque setting, has every modern  convenience to offer. We will be cooking there on three successive nights with amuse-gueules for starters and a variety of French sweets for dessert.

And of course we also make pâté!

You will be cooking only authentic French dishes.

The abbot will select the wines to match the food and explain his expert choices with enthusiasm. In the evenings we will dine at beautifully set tables. The daytime will be spent visiting various producers, depending on the season, e.g. a foie gras farm at Yssandon, a saffron grower, an escargot farm whose owner will invite you to sample her home-made escargot recipes, a liqueur distillery, a walnut processing plant, and more. We will visit the charming old town of Brive-la-Gaillarde, a real jewel in the Correzian crown. There we will visit the (partly covered) Saturday market and have lunch at a really excellent restaurant.

There will be time enough left to relax at the swimming pool, the hot tub, or the miles of footpaths starting out from the Abbey, where Limousine cows are the only onlookers

to witness your passage. An oasis of peace…

We charge € 535 p/p for a  4-day cooking course, based on occupation of a shared room (a supplement of € 120,- is charged for a private room.

This price includes a three-night stay, three cooking workshops, lunches, breakfasts, all drinks served during lunches and on locations, and recipes. Not included are travel costs and transportation costs on site (car rentals).

By car from Utrecht, the Netherlands, to Ayen-Bas, France, is a ten-hour ride. The nearest airport from Ayen is Bergerac (1hour 15 minutes). Bordeaux is 2 hours, Toulouse is well over 2 hours.

You can book individually or as a group. Depending on the proportion of shared and individual rooms booked, your group can number up to 10 persons. In case you’d prefer to come with a group some other day, please let us know.
